Live-in Nanny Salary UAE: 2026 Pay and True Monthly Cost

What a live-in nanny is paid in the UAE in 2026, and what she actually costs once visa, insurance, food, flights and gratuity are added.

Updated 6 September 2026 · 9 min read

Live-in salaries look low next to live-out salaries, and every year families are caught out by the gap between the two. A live-in nanny's base salary is only part of what she costs, because the family sponsors her visa, insures her, houses her, feeds her, flies her home once a year, and owes her a gratuity when the job ends. This guide puts real numbers on all of it.

Compare real live-in expectations

Every profile shows the candidate's own expected monthly salary, her experience and her start date, so you can benchmark a live-in offer against the market before you make contact.

Live-in nanny base salary, 2026

  • Dubai: AED 1,800–4,200+ per month.
  • Abu Dhabi: AED 1,700–4,000+ per month.
  • Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates: AED 1,500–3,500+ per month.
  • Live-in nanny-housekeeper: AED 2,000–4,800+ per month where light housekeeping is part of the role alongside childcare.

These are market ranges rather than legal minimums. UAE domestic worker law sets benefit entitlements, not a salary floor. One exception worth knowing: candidates recruited through the Philippine overseas employment system have a minimum set by their own government, which is why Filipino live-in offers cluster at the upper end. Our Filipino nanny salary guide covers that in detail.

The costs that sit on top of salary

For a live-in nanny you sponsor yourself, these are the recurring lines. The right-hand column spreads each one across twelve months so it can be compared against salary.

CostTypical amountPer month
Tadbeer visa processingAED 3,000–6,000 every two yearsAED 125–250
Health insuranceAED 800–2,500 per year, mandatory for the sponsorAED 65–210
Food and household costsAn extra adult in the homeAED 400–700
Annual return flightAED 1,200–3,000 depending on the countryAED 100–250
End-of-service gratuity21 days of pay per year of serviceRoughly 6% of salary

Accommodation is the cost families most often leave out, because it is not an invoice. A dedicated staff room is a real part of what you are providing, and it is the reason a live-in salary can sit AED 1,500 or more below a live-out one for the same work.

A worked example

A Dubai family hires a live-in nanny at AED 2,500 per month, which sits mid-range for a candidate with several years of UAE experience. Their real monthly cost looks like this:

  • Base salary: AED 2,500
  • Visa, spread over two years: about AED 190
  • Health insurance: about AED 110
  • Food and household: about AED 550
  • Annual flight, spread over the year: about AED 170
  • Gratuity accrual: about AED 145

Total: roughly AED 3,665 per month, which is about 47% above the headline salary. That figure is the one to compare against a live-out offer, not the AED 2,500.

When live-in is genuinely cheaper, and when it is not

Run the comparison on total cost and the answer is usually clear:

  • Live-in wins when you already have a staff room, need early mornings or late evenings covered, and have more than one young child. The flexibility is the product, and it is not available at any live-out price.
  • Live-out wins when your hours are predictable, you have no spare room, or you would rather not take on sponsorship, medicals and renewals. A live-out nanny with UAE residency or a spouse visa needs no sponsorship from you at all, which removes the visa line and the paperwork with it.

Our live-in vs live-out guide covers the lifestyle side of the same decision, including the household privacy question that rarely appears in a budget but ends plenty of arrangements.

Getting the offer right

  • Quote the salary as a number, separately from what is provided. Ambiguity about whether food and phone credit are included is the most common early dispute.
  • Put the day off in writing. One full rest day per week is an entitlement under UAE domestic worker law, not a benefit you are granting.
  • Agree the flight cycle at the start. Most families budget one return flight for every twelve months worked, taken with annual leave.
  • Do not price down for a candidate who is already in the UAE with a transferable visa. She saves you the recruitment wait, and that is worth paying for.
